Development of multi-species model in local gyrokinetic turbulence simulations

The understanding of turbulent transport phenomena and prediction of the transport levels is one of the most important issues in fusion plasma researches. The turbulent transport with single ion or electron species has been investigated by means of nonlinear gyrokinetic simulations, so far. However, many particle species, such as fuel ions, electrons, and impurity ions, are involved in more realistic burning plasmas with fusion reactions, so that turbulent transport phenomena with multi species should be explored. In this study, the conventional gyrokinetic simulation model is extended to multi-species one. Numerical results of the new simulation code is verified by benchmark tests with linear stability analyses (ITG-TEM-ETG modes). These results also provide ones with the numerical conditions for the nonlinear simulations of burning plasma turbulence.
